Resilient Channel
Resilient Channel is the most cost effective way (outside of insulation) to help soundproof your home. It is made from thin, flexible strips of metal and is designed to fasten directly to the studs. Drywall is then attached directly to the RC channel instead of fastening to they studs directly. This creates a pocket of air that effectively dampens the sound waves and dissipates the sound transmission energy.

Green Glue
Green glue is another effective soundproofing method. Green Glue is applied between two pieces of sheetrock on your walls or ceilings. Because Green Glue is a dampening compound that never fully sets hard, the flexible material creates a vibration dampening effect. Sound is a vibration energy, by dampening that energy, there should be a reduction in sound.
